Skate dance instructor Martin Newham is coming to Oahu and will be teaching a series of dance skating workshops!
Martin has been skating for over 50+ years. He has played ice hockey, figure skated, inline skated, and roller skated. He has competed nationally in adult pairs and ice dance; Martin has competed in senior competitive synchronized skating on a national and international level. He is a SkateIA and Roll Right certified instructor and has taught roller dance and synchronized skating at events throughout Canada and the US.
He will be doing the following workshops:
Saturday, May 14, 10am-noon: Dance Skating Workshop
Starting with a few figures and edges, participants will learn skate dance skills with immediate in-the-moment feedback from a certified SkateIA and Roll Right instructor; these skills will be linked together ultimately into a choreographed number, which will be premiered at the Spring Into Wonderland Mad Hatter Unbirthday Skate Party later that evening.
Sunday, May 15, 4pm-6pm: Fundamentals of Synchronized Skating Workshop
Learn the basics of synchronized skating: skating in unison while holding on to others; skating in lines, blocks, and circles. Participants will be holding on to one another during these maneuvers so bear this in mind when putting on wrist guards. Ability to skate backwards a definite asset.
Each workshop is limited to a maximum of 20 participants and will be held at 340 Uluniu Street (covered parking lot across from Cinnamon's Restaurant and 808 Skate in Kailua).
Purchase a pass to each class individually, or get the FULL PASS which includes entry to both workshops and our Spring Into Wonderland Mad Hatter Unbirthday Skate Party on the evening of May 14, where you can join in on performing the dance that you learned in the Dance Skating Workshop!
Once registered, we will email you a link to the waiver sites.
