February 28: Skate Movie Night: Roller Dreams

Join us for Skate Movie Night on February 28!

February's film is Roller Dreams, a 2017 documentary that traces the Venice Beach roller-skating phenomenon from its ascent in the 1980s through to the tumultuous 1990s. Originally, Venice Beach served as a haven and space of cultural expression for Black and Hispanic residents amidst the tense sociopolitical climate of 1980s inner-city LA. As police intervention and personal conflicts threaten its status as a safe and celebrated space, the futures of the skaters, and their fans, come into question.

Watch the film trailer on Youtube!

We will screen the film at the skate shop on February 28 from 6pm-8pm. It's free and open to all ages. The movie itself is unrated but may contain coarse language.

Complimentary popcorn and bottled water will be available; BYO snacks. There will be two benches to sit on, and an area rug up front to lay on if you prefer. You can also bring your own comfy chair. Space is limited; come early to reserve your spot.

Future films and shows will range from lighthearted fantasies to serious documentaries, all with a connection to skating. We hope that you can join us!
